In poker, there are 169 different starting hands, 78 pairs where the cards are of the same suit, 78 where they are of a different suit and 13 pairs in the hand. Of course, not all of these hands are equally good. In fact, most of them are very bad,
One of the most common starting hand mistakes that many beginners make is playing (way) too many starting hands. They think, "With this hand I can make a full house just as well as with aces!" but that's not the good mentality.
Remember, the same kind twice is always better.
Types of starting hands
We distinguish the following playable starting hands
Pairs in hand ( AA, 99, 77 )
Suited Connectors ( KQ, T9 of the same color)
Two high cards ( AK, AQ )
Suited ace + x ( AT, A7 of the same suit)
These are also normally the only starting hands you play. Please note that the hand you play always depends on your position at the table. If you have a good position, you can play a lot more hands than if you have a bad position.
A pair and suited connectors as a starting hand
A pair (two of the same cards such as 99 or KK) and suited connectors (two consecutive cards of the same suit) have a number of things in common. They both have the potential to become very good hands. With suited connectors (SCs) you can get both a Straight and a Flush. With a pair on your hands, it is much easier than usual to reach a Three of a Kind or a Full House.
Of course you play very high pairs (99 - AA) and very high SCs (AK, KQ) basically always does. But with the lower pairs, try to see a flop with as many people in the pot as possible, while betting as little as possible.
You do this because by betting a little, you have the chance to win a lot if the small chance that you either get your Three of a Kind or a good Flush or Straight (draw) arises! Just make sure you throw these hands away if you don't hit anything!
Good in any position: AA, KK, QQ, JJ, TT, 99, AK, KQ
Well in good position: 88, 77, 66, 55, QJ, JT, T9, 98
Not good: 33, 22, 54, 43
Two high cards
It is often said that having two pictures in your starting hand is always beautiful! And this is true. Hands like AK, AQ, KQ, especially if they are both of the same suit, are always good! Just be careful not to get tempted into bad positions by hands like K9 and QT. With these types of hands you lose more often than you think.
Good in any position: AK, AQ, AJ, KQ
Well in good position: AT, KJ, QJ, A9
Not good- K8, Q9, A4, T9

Starting hand of an Ace with another card
Since you can get the highest combinations with an Ace , this starting hand can be very good. But it is very dangerous to play A5 and A7 all the time because you are screwed if someone else has A9 or higher! Make sure you only play these kinds of low aces (A2 - A8) if they are of the same suit.
Good in any position: AK, AQ, AJ
Well in good position: A2-AT same suit
Not good: A2-A8 not the same suit
Conclusion
Make sure you don't play too many starting hands when playing poker. This can go terribly wrong! Only play pairs, suited connectors, high cards and high aces! It is always better if the two cards you have are of the same suit.
